GWModelServer.com - Overview:
We are starting an ambitious project to put all public-domain groundwater models on-line in a searchable database at www.GWModelServer.com. We are starting with USGS publications, state and local government web sites, and university MS and PhD theses. The goal is to preserve these models and all the knowledge gained from them, both in terms of reports but also the underlying input files. While we view this as a benefit to the groundwater modeling community as a whole, it will be especially useful to our Groundwater Vistas users because we will be converting as many models as possible into that platform. We have found that each model we convert into Groundwater Vistas provides added insight into new ideas/techniques/conceptual models. We use these new ideas to improve our software.
Initially GWModelServer.com will have the models categorized by state, with rudimentary search capabilities. As we expand the site, we will provide links to GoogleEarth and enhance the search capabilities. In these early days, access to the site will be free of charge. However, we will be requesting a donation if you find the site useful. Those donations will help offset the cost of running the web site and searching for more models. We do not rule out charging for downloads in the future if donations are not sufficient to maintain the service at a "break-even" level.
We hope you find GWModelServer.com a benefit to your groundwater modeling activities. If you have suggestions to improve the site or if you have public-domain models to contribute, please feel free to contact us.
